Stop the presses and start the Oscar watch. The first trailer for Steven Spielberg's "The Post" is already generating Academy Award buzz for stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.
The perennial nominees play Washington Post owner Katherine Graham and editor Ben Bradlee, who faced potential jail time for publishing the controversial Pentagon Papers in 1971.
The political drama pits the Post and the New York Times against the Nixon administration, which wanted to suppress thousands of leaked classified documents detailing the U.S. government's misleading claims about the Vietnam War.
"The way they lied," says Hanks as Bradlee, "those days have to be over."
A reminder that the often contentious relationship between the press and the president is nothing new, "The Post" opens December 22.
