Room service just isn’t what it used to be. No, really, it isn’t. And Joe Brancatelli can prove it. The travel expert points to figures noting that limited-service hotel rooms outnumber full-service (2.7 million vs. 2.2 million). What’s more, room service only accounts for around 1 percent of the revenue at hotels that offer it — and revenue fell to $866 per room in 2012, compared to over $1,150 in 2007. “That works out to just $2.37 in room-service charges per room each day,” Brancatelli writes, noting that many hotels are dropping the service altogether. “Hotels eventually get rid of stuff that travelers stop valuing.” – Ralph Raffio
